Keeping it between the lines, walk the line, plumb line, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, red line, crossing the line, bottom line, fine line, fence line.  Our lives are filled with lines.  Life is a labyrinth and we live between the lines of the choices we make.  

Robert Frost’s 1914 poem “Mending Wall” has the famous line, “Good fences make good neighbors”.  In the West, we rely on fence lines to keep livestock in or out depending on the need.  We hope the fences hold and protect what they contain.  It is an attempt to have order in a diverse and unforgiving landscape.  And, they show a willingness to do our part to respect one another’s property.
